Sandy Stream Trip

Monique, Andrew, James, Emmaline & I went up to the camps this past week-end. Still a little snow up there - a fair amount of mud. The stream was high (1st photo). Not too many bugs, just a few disoriented mosquitos.

Monique and I put a screen over our bunk the second night and left the kids to fend for themselves (i.e. bait). Justice was served though because nothing bothered the kids that night and somehow we got attacked by a couple mosquitos - don't know how they got past our defenses.

The second photo was taken down by Cyr's camp.

On our way out of the woods we hit a pot-hole too hard and something snapped. There was a thump, thump, thump noise that shook the car, coming from the vicinity of the drive shaft. I couldn't see what was broken.

We were almost out of the woods when it happened but it was Sunday (everything closed) and no rental car facility within 100 miles. We managed to limp the car towards town at like 2 mph and happened to find a guy who works on cars and had just gotten back into town. He jacked up the car and noticed the emergency brake cables had come loose and were interfering with the drive shaft. He used a couple plastic ties to get them out of the way and all was well!

We were imagining major damage and being stranded in Millinocket and we escaped in less than 1/2 hour, only requiring a couple plastic ties! Yea!

All-in-all a good trip.
